Trash, Bulky Waste

Bulky Waste

Bulky waste is household waste that is too large to fit in a trash bag.
For example, broken furniture, carpeting, or large pieces of wood.

Drop off bulky waste at the recycling center

Drop off bulky waste at an Avalex recycling center.
That’s best for the environment. Because at the recycling center, nearly half of the waste is sorted and recycled.

The recycling center in Wassenaar is the closest one and is located at Hogeboomseweg 6 in Wassenaar. View all recycling centers and their hours of operation here: .

Arrange for pickup for a fee

You can also have the city pick up your bulky waste. This costs 25 euros per pickup, and the rules for putting out bulky waste apply.
Having the city pick up bulky waste is less environmentally friendly than dropping it off yourself. This is because the collected waste is compacted in a compactor truck and ultimately incinerated.

You may put out a maximum of 1 cubic meter of bulky waste per collection. That means: 1 meter wide, 1 meter long, and 1 meter high. You may include a maximum of 1 piece of furniture or a single piece of furniture longer than 1 meter.

Waste that does not belong in the bulky waste category will not be picked up by the municipality.

This does not belong in the bulky waste:

  • Useful items
  • Construction and Demolition Waste
  • Electrical appliances
  • Bulky yard waste

  • Waste paper and cardboard

These items also do not belong in the bulky waste:

  • Food scraps and vegetable, fruit, and yard waste (VFY)
