Municipal council

The Municipal Council ( municipal council ) is the local representative body and the highest governing body of the municipality. Once every four years, eligible voters directly elect the members of the Municipal Executive ( municipal council). The Municipal Council ( municipal council ) consists of a total of twenty-one members. The chair of the Municipal Executive ( municipal council ) is the mayor. The mayor does not have voting rights in the Municipal Council ( municipal council).

What does the " municipal council" do?

The Municipal Council ( municipal council ) plays an important role in our municipality. The council makes decisions that affect the daily lives of all residents and represents their interests. The council establishes policies and regulations in a wide range of areas, such as housing, traffic, and sustainability. 

In addition, the Municipal Council ( municipal council )supervision oversees the work of the Municipal Executive ( executive board )—composed of the mayor and aldermen—and ensures that established policies and regulations are properly implemented. It also decides how the municipal budget is spent. In this way, the council ensures that the municipality is well governed and that the interests of its residents are taken into account.

The Municipal Clerk’s Office

The primary responsibility of the Municipal Clerk’s Office is to advise and support the municipal council. The Municipal Clerk’s Office is not part of the civil service but is appointed by and employed by the council.
