Green
Voorschoten is a green village with parks, water features, nature areas, and green spaces in its neighborhoods. These various types of green spaces contribute to the quality of life for both people and animals. For example, an environment with many different plant and animal species is less susceptible to extremes such as heavy rain or pest infestations. We also refer to such a species-rich environment as a biodiverse environment. Sufficient biodiversity also benefits other aspects, such as clean air and healthy soil, which provide food for people and animals. For these and other reasons, the Municipality of Voorschoten considers it an important task to strengthen biodiversity and ensure sufficient green spaces in the village and the surrounding area.
Did you know that...
… homes in a green neighborhood are generally worth more than homes in a neighborhood without green spaces?
… more greenery helps you stay cooler in the summer? This is because greenery promotes evaporation, which in turn cools the area. Greenery can also provide insulation (for example, against a wall) and help keep the area cool by providing shade.
… more greenery helps limit flooding during prolonged or heavy rainstorms? By replacing pavers with greenery, you allow water to seep into the ground more easily. This prevents streets from becoming flooded. We also refer to limiting the impact of weather conditions as climate adaptation.
