Green
Voorschoten is a green village featuring parks, bodies of water, nature reserves, and green spaces within neighborhoods. These various types of greenery contribute to the quality of life for both people and animals. For instance, an environment with many different plant and animal species is less susceptible to extremes such as heavy rainfall or pests. Such a species-rich environment is also known as a biodiverse environment. Adequate biodiversity is also beneficial for other aspects, such as clean air or healthy soil to provide food for humans and animals. For these and other reasons, the Municipality of Voorschoten considers it an important task to enhance biodiversity and ensure sufficient greenery in the village and its surroundings.
Did you know that...
… houses in a green neighborhood are generally worth more than houses in a neighborhood without greenery?
… more greenery ensures that you suffer less from heat in the summer? This is because greenery provides evaporation and thus cooling. Greenery can also provide insulation (for example, against a wall) and cooling through shade.
… more greenery ensures that water nuisance during prolonged or heavy rain showers is limited? By replacing tiles with greenery, you ensure that water can seep into the earth more easily. This prevents streets from flooding. Limiting nuisance caused by weather conditions is also known as climate adaptation.
