Overhanging greenery

DE municipality requests that you remove any overhanging greenery when maintaining your garden. These are trees and bushes that hang over your fence or the boundary of your garden, thereby extending onto DE sidewalk or street. Overhanging greenery can be a nuisance and a hazard, especially on a narrow sidewalk. People with disabilities, in particular, can experience significant difficulties because of this. Overhanging greenery may consist of plants from gardens or from municipal flowerbeds.

Municipal flowerbeds

DE municipality prunes the greenery in its flowerbeds between October and March. DE municipality will prune earlier if the sidewalk is no longer easily accessible.

Private gardens

If you notice overhanging greenery anywhere, please ask the owner or tenant to prune it. If this does not happen, you can report it to DE municipality. You can do this via DE website, by telephone via 14 071, and via the MijnGemeenteApp. You can download this via DE Appstore and Google Play store.

What happens after I have made a report to DE municipality?

A public space inspector will handle a report. DE inspector will visit the residents or business where the overhanging greenery was observed. If there is no answer, DE inspector will leave a note containing the request to prune the overhanging greenery.

If the greenery has not been pruned within four weeks, DE inspector will visit again. If the owner still does not remove the overhanging greenery after the second request, it can be pruned by, for example, a landscaper. If costs are incurred for this, these must be paid by DE owner under DE legal term administrative coercion.
