Get Involved in Green Initiatives

A green environment is a pleasant place to live, spend time, and play. It looks inviting, and it makes the butterflies and bees happy, too. Could the green spaces in your neighborhood use a little color? Then adopt a small public green space! Many residents have already done so. Check out the examples for inspiration. The municipality has also created a brochure: Get Involved with Green.

How does it work?

You notify the municipality of the piece of land you would like to adopt. You can do this on your own or together with your neighbors. The municipality will check in advance whether the green space is eligible for adoption. The municipality will then contact you to schedule an appointment.

Have you thought about the plants yet? You can discuss this with the municipality during the meeting. The manager can also advise you on this and may have some tips on maintenance. The arrangements regarding management will be set out in an agreement. Be sure to check out the step-by-step guide to adopting green spaces.

Tree base and facade garden

You can also plant and maintain the area around the tree on your street by adopting a tree pit. You can also create a facade garden. You may remove one and a half tiles along the facade and plant vegetation in that space. Of course, there are places where adopting a tree pit is difficult. To help you get started, we’ve drawn up guidelines for tree pits and facade gardens.

Greenery Mitigates the Effects of Heavy Showers

The greener the environment, the better it is for people, animals, and nature. In recent years, we have been experiencing increasingly frequent heavy rainstorms. More soil and vegetation help ensure that rainwater can drain away quickly and can prevent streets from flooding.
