New Sports Center in Voorschoten

The Municipality of Voorschoten is working on plans for a new sports center with a sports hall and a swimming pool—a place where all residents can exercise, swim, and socialize. In April 2025, the “ municipal council ” (Voorschoten Sports Council) designated Adegeest Sports Park as the preferred location for the new sports center. The new sports hall will replace De Vliethorst Sports Hall in the “ centre.” The new swimming pool will replace Het Wedde Swimming Pool, which is in need of replacement.

Executive board submits a proposal for a new sports center to municipal council

In the future, too, residents of Voorschoten should be able to swim, play sports, and socialize close to home. That is why the “ executive board ” is proposing to the “ municipal council ” that a new sports center be built at Adegeest Sports Park. The proposal includes a sports hall, a swimming pool with two lanes, and recreational facilities. The construction of the new sports center is expected to cost €28.3 million. On September 24, the municipal council will decide whether to approve the proposal.

Survey

In March and April 2026, the municipality conducted a survey about the new swimming pool. More than 600 adults and over 120 children completed the survey.

The study paints a clear picture. The new swimming pool should evolve into a multifunctional aquatic facility where recreation and the overall experience take center stage. It should also be highly appealing to families and young people.

Open House Afternoon

On Thursday, April 9, 2026, there was an open house at Het Wedde swimming pool at Adegeest Sports Park. 

During this open house, residents had the opportunity to speak with the project manager and municipal advisors about the plans for the new sports center in Voorschoten. The plans for the new swimming pool were also explained in more detail during the open house.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a new sports center needed?

The current De Vliethorst sports hall and Het Wedde swimming pool are outdated. The new sports center is essential to ensure that people can continue to swim and play sports in Voorschoten in the future.

Where will the new sports center be built?

The new sports center is being built at Adegeest Sports Park, right next to the current Het Wedde swimming pool.

Will the pool stay open?

Yes, the Het Wedde swimming pool will remain open during the construction of the new sports center. The Het Wedde swimming pool will be demolished only after the new sports center has been completed.

Will the golf course remain open?

Yes, the golf course will remain open. During the construction of the new sports center (2029–2030), one practice hole will be temporarily unavailable. After the new sports center is completed, the Wedde swimming pool will be demolished. This will also free up space for a partial redesign of the golf course. A new practice hole will be built, and several adjustments will be made to the golf course to ensure it continues to meet the requirements of the national association. The golf course is and will remain accessible only to members of the Voorschotense Golf Club or to those paying a green fee. 

What will happen following the decision by the “ municipal council ” on September 24?

If the “ municipal council ” approves the proposal, the municipality will begin the bidding process to select an architect. This will be followed by the design phase, the selection of a contractor, and the permitting procedures. Construction is currently scheduled for 2029–2030. If the “ municipal council ” does not approve the proposal, the “ executive board ” will determine what next steps are necessary.
