Voorschoten Takes the Next Step Toward a New Sports Center
The Voorschoten Municipal Council ( municipal council ) has approved the further development of a new sports center at Adegeest Sports Park. This marks an important step toward creating a future-proof facility where residents can swim, play sports, and socialize.
The new sports center will eventually replace the Het Wedde swimming pool and the De Vliethorst sports hall. The planned sports center will consist of a swimming pool with two lanes, recreational facilities, and a sports hall. The sports center will be developed with sustainability in mind and will provide space for sports, exercise, socializing, and swimming safety for current and future generations.

Alderman Rachèl van Hellemondt: “I’m pleased that the municipal council has approved this next step toward a new sports center for Voorschoten that will also serve visitors from the surrounding area. This will allow us to further develop the plans for a facility where people of all ages will soon be able to swim, play sports, and socialize. In doing so, we’ll build on the insights, wishes, and ideas of residents, sports clubs, schools, and other users. We will continue to engage with them during the next phase as well."
Plans
With this council decision, the municipality can further develop the design and prepare the request for proposals. Construction of the new sports center is scheduled for 2029 and 2030. Het Wedde will remain open during construction so that residents can continue to swim. Once the new sports center is complete, the current swimming pool will be demolished, and the surrounding area will be redesigned with a focus on green spaces, socializing, sports, and physical activity.
