The Municipality of Voorschoten believes it is important for people to be able to live in a way that suits them. This also applies to people living in mobile homes.

To be allowed to live in a trailer, you must be a descendant of trailer dwellers. 

In 2018, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that the culture of people living in travel trailers must be respected. This means that the government must ensure that this way of life remains possible. Municipalities must therefore provide enough sites. This allows people living in travel trailers to continue living close to their families and in their own way.

Holland Rijnland Wonen manages the inventory and applications for rental homes, mobile homes, and sites in the Holland Rijnland region. Voorschoten is also part of this region.

  1. Register at www.hureninhollandrijnland.nl
  2. For the housing type, select "campsite" and/or "travel trailer."
  3. You will be placed on a waiting list and assigned points according to the region's point system.

You must renew your registration every year to remain registered. Through Holland Rijnland, you can see when a plot or mobile home becomes available. You can respond to these listings here. Your position on the waiting list determines whether you will be invited for a viewing.

Have you been selected? If so, you decide whether to accept the housing unit or mobile home. The housing authority will verify your information and then send you details about the lease agreement.

Who is allowed to live in a mobile home in Voorschoten?

If you want to be eligible for a mobile home or a mobile home site, you must meet what is known as the “principle of descent.” This means that you, your parents, and your grandparents must have lived in a mobile home. You must be able to prove this.

How do you prove that you are allowed to live in a trailer?

You can prove this by meeting both of the following requirements:

  • You can prove your "lineage" with, for example, an extract from the population registry, 

    and;

  • You live in Voorschoten, or your parents or grandparents live there or have lived there in the past. Or you have a demonstrable connection to the municipality of Voorschoten.
     

A demonstrable connection means that:

  • You, your parents, or your grandparents must have lived at a site in Voorschoten for at least 2 years. Or you must havefirst- orsecond-degree relatives living at an existing trailer park in Voorschoten.
  • And you must have had income from Voorschoten for at least 2 years. By “income from Voorschoten,” we mean that you must have worked in Voorschoten for at least 2 years (as an employee or as a self-employed person) or received benefits or a pension there.
