Vlietwijk neighborhood renewal

The housing authority Rijnhart Wonen is preparing Vlietwijk for the future. It is doing so through renovation, new construction, and possibly demolition as well. In addition to housing, there will still be plenty of space for green areas, parking spaces, and gathering places. Rijnhart Wonen is developing the necessary plans in collaboration with residents and the municipality of Voorschoten.

This is a large-scale project by Rijnhart Wonen. The municipality sets guidelines, evaluates the plans against these guidelines, and provides assistance where possible.

Vlietwijk is a residential neighborhood with plenty of public green spaces, water features, and wide streets. In addition to single-family homes, porch-style apartment buildings, and apartment complexes, there are various community amenities. The neighborhood is home to a diverse population, ranging from young families to people who have lived there for decades. Nearly half of the homes are public housing units owned by Rijnhart Wonen.

There are questions and concerns in the neighborhood about the plans. We understand that. On this page, we explain what we know so far, what is still being studied, and how you can share your thoughts.

Frequently asked questions

What is the role of the municipality?

Rijnhart Wonen is responsible for its own housing projects. The municipality sets guidelines, reviews the plans against these guidelines, and provides assistance where possible. We are currently in the phase of conducting studies and developing plans. No final decisions have been made yet.

Where do we stand now?

Once the initial proposal has been approved, Rijnhart Wonen can begin working on an urban development plan for Vlietwijk. This plan outlines the future of the neighborhood. Among other things, it specifies where homes will remain or could be built and how the new layout of the planning area will be designed.

These topics are also discussed during public participation meetings. During these meetings, attention is also given to residents’ ideas, wishes, and concerns regarding the plans that are presented.

What are the subfields?

  • Subarea A (shown in green on the Map): study of renovation options
  • Subarea B (shown in blue on the Map): a study of options for demolition and new construction, which could also include the construction of additional housing units
  • Subarea C (shown in yellow on the Map): study on renovation and/or demolition and new construction

As soon as more details become available, Rijnhart Wonen will provide an update. Any potential demolition will only affect homes owned by Rijnhart Wonen. Homeowner-occupied homes will remain intact.

Residents know their neighborhood best. That is why Rijnhart Wonen and the municipality believe it is important for residents to contribute their ideas about the future of Vlietwijk. We will post information about new meetings and opportunities for participation on this page as soon as they are announced.
