Building a Fire

You are not allowed to light a fire outdoors without permission. If you still wish to do so, you must apply for an exemption from the municipality. For example, for an Easter bonfire, a bonfire, or if you are burning wood or yard waste.

Please note

You do not need to apply for an exemption if you are using candles, torches, fire pits, or patio heaters, or if you are lighting a fire for cooking, baking, or roasting, such as on a barbecue.

What should I do?

You must apply for the exemption with the municipality. Please provide the following information:

  • the type of waste that is incinerated
  • the location of the fire
  • the date, start time, and duration of the fire

How long does it take?

You will be notified within 8 weeks whether you have been granted the exemption.

File an objection

If you disagree with the municipality's decision, you may file an objection within 6 weeks.
