Apply for a Traffic Exemption

Sometimes you need a permit if you want to do something on or along a public road. For example, if you:

  • you want to park a moving truck or crane on the road (which will result in a partial road closure)
  • erects structures
  • organizes bike rides or events

To do this, you must apply for an exemption from the road authority.

Where should I apply for an exemption?

  • For national highways: Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment
  • For provincial roads: Provincial Executive
  • for roads managed by the water board: the water board
  • For other public roads: the municipality
  • For vehicle requirements: the RDW

How does it work?

If the roads in question are managed by the municipality, you must apply for the exemption with the municipality. Please include the following information with your application:

  • location, date, and time of your activity
  • Reason and Necessity for the Exemption

Please submit the traffic permit application 4 weeks in advance.
