Report relocation

You must report your move to the municipality where you will be living.

  • You must be enrolled in the Netherlands. If you are not enrolled , you can use the "Move to the Netherlands" option.
  • Do this no later than 5 days after you have moved.
  • You can submit this up to 4 weeks in advance.

Which organizations does the municipality notify about my move?

The municipality forwards your move to all organizations that require this information to perform their statutory duties. DENK for example of the Tax and Customs Administration, the police, the fire department, and hospitals. You can check wiekrijgtmijngegevens.nl to see which organizations these are.

If you report the change too late, this may affect things such as rent allowance, student financing, your parking licence, municipal taxes, or benefits.

Moving abroad

If you are moving abroad from the municipality, you must report this to the municipality no later than 5 days before your departure. You will then declare your emigration. Different rules apply to emigration. Moving abroad outlines what you need to do.

What to do?

Report your move to the new municipality. Do this no later than 5 days after you have moved. If you wish to report the move earlier, you can do so up to 4 weeks before the moving date.

Please note:

If you report a change of address after the move, the date of the move will be the date of the address change, provided this is done within 5 days of the move.

  • If you report the change later, the date on which you report the change to the municipality will be the official date of the address change.
  • If you have reported a move for a future date, the municipality will update the address details on the date you specified. This will then be the date of the address change.

Health Make sure you provide all the information the municipality needs. Otherwise, the municipality will not update your address information.

How does it work?

The following persons are authorised to report a move:

  • anyone aged 16 or older for themselves
  • cohabiting spouses/registered partners for each other (only if they are moving together from one address to another)
  • the parent, guardian, or caregiver for minor children
  • parent(s) for resident adult children (only if they are moving together from one address to another)
  • adult children for resident parent(s) (only if they are moving together from one address to another)
  • the legal curator for a person under legal restraint
  • the head of the institution for persons residing in an institution
  • someone you have authorised to report the move on your behalf

Are you going to live with someone else?

In that case, you will need a “ authorisation ” (consent form) from the person with whom you will be living. This is the primary resident at that address—for example, one of your parents or your partner. Don’t forget to also provide a copy of the consenting person’s identification.

Authorising someone

To grant authorisation, write a letter containing the following information:

'I hereby authorise (your initials, surname, date of birth, place of birth, and address), the person listed below (initials, surname, date of birth, place of birth, and address of the person you are authorising) to report my move from (old address) to (new address).'

Sign this letter and give it to the authorised person.

At the desk, the authorised person must show the following:

  • his or her valid proof of identity
  • (a copy of) your valid proof of identity
  • proof of your new address, such as a purchase or rental agreement, or authorisation (as the primary resident) if you are moving in with someone
  • the signed letter of authorisation

Authorities and organisations that need your moving details
