• Before you leave the Netherlands, you must notify the municipality of your departure (emigration).
  • You are considered to have emigrated if you spend at least 8 months abroad within a 1-year period.
  • These 8 months do not have to be consecutive.

Please note

The municipality cannot print an extract containing departure information after the day of departure. To obtain this information, you must visit one of the RNI service centers at .

How does it work?

You can report your departure from the Netherlands online if all residents of the address are emigrating at the same time.

If you live with other people at the same address and not everyone is coming with you, then everyone who is coming with you must visit the municipal office in person. This also applies to children under the age of 18.

Who can report an emigration?

  • anyone who is 16 years of age or older
  • parents, guardians, or caregivers of children under the age of 16
  • parents for their adult child or children living at home (only if the parents and their children living at home move abroad together)
  • spouses or registered partners living together (only if the spouses or partners move abroad together)
  • Adult children living with their parent(s) (only if adult children living at home and their parent(s) move abroad together)
  • the guardian for a person who has been placed under guardianship.

It is not possible for an authorized representative to file a change-of-address notification for a move abroad.

What should I do?

You must notify the municipality of your departure no later than 5 days in advance. Please provide the following information:

  • the names and dates of birth of family members who are emigrating with you
  • your old address
  • your new address
  • the date of emigration

Please note

You will be deregistered on the day you report your move (not on your actual move-out date).
