Itinerant trade
If you wish to sell goods or services on the street or door-to-door, you may do so only if the municipality permits it. You may need to apply for a “ licence ” (street vending permit) to do so.
How does it work?
With an itinerant trade licence, you are allowed to sell your goods or services in public places such as public roads, along public waters, or door-to-door.
Itinerant trade means that you continuously sell your goods from different locations, rather than a fixed spot. Examples of itinerant vendors include an ice cream vendor or greengrocer with a mobile cart. Itinerant trade does not apply in the following cases:
- You are distributing written or printed material as part of the freedom of expression.
- You are a shopkeeper delivering goods to a buyer's home.
- You sell your goods from a fixed location or at a markt. In that case, you need a marketplace permit or a fixed-location permit.
What to do?
Check with the municipality to see if you’re allowed to sell goods on the street, and where and when you can do so. You’ll find out right away whether you need to apply for a “ licence ” permit.
