Demolition work across the street from Korte Vliet
In Leiden, across from the Korte Vliet near Het Fortuyn van Voorschoten, the City of Leiden is constructing two new school buildings and a community center. Before that can happen, demolition work is underway.
This week, residents living on the Voorschoten side of the Korte Vliet were informed via a letter about the demolition of the red-blue-yellow low-rise building that formerly housed ROC Mondriaan at Vijf Meilaan 137.
Working Hours and Removal of Materials
Van Diemen Sloopwerken has begun demolition work. The workers are on the job from 7:00 a.m. to around 4:00 p.m. If they need to finish a job, they sometimes work until 7:00 p.m. To prevent traffic disruptions, 80% of the demolition debris is transported by water. To ensure safe loading, a section of the walking path on the Leiden side of the Korte Vliet is cordoned off. Asbestos is safely removed by truck, as is reusable wood, which is sent to DZB Leiden.
