Working Together for a Biodiverse and Climate-Resilient Voorschoten
To combat the decline in insect populations and mitigate the effects of heat, drought, and flooding, the municipality of Voorschoten has joined the Steenbreek Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to making the living environment greener. In short: out with the concrete, in with the plants. By making gardens greener, they become more climate-resilient, more beautiful, and provide more habitat for birds, insects, and other animals. Together, we can make a difference and create a greener Voorschoten! Will you join us?
Why a Greener Voorschoten?
The climate is changing. Longer periods of drought alternate with extreme downpours, increasing the risk of flooding. By making your garden greener, you’ll make it more climate-resilient and attract more birds and insects. Greenery has many positive effects:
- Greenery increases the value of your home or commercial property
- Green spaces help increase the number of bees, which are currently threatened with extinction
- Green spaces have a positive effect on health and well-being
- Greenery provides extra cooling in the summer
- Greenery improves air quality and reduces CO₂ concentrations
What can you do on your own?
As a resident of Voorschoten, you can do your part to help create a biodiverse and climate-resilient Voorschoten. We could really use your help, because as a resident of Voorschoten, you can make a difference where the municipality cannot: on your own property. Wondering how you can do your part? You’ll find more information below.
