Opening hours stores

Shops are allowed to be open on weekdays and Saturdays between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

On Sundays and public holidays, shops may be open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

This (also) includes:

New Year's Day, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Monday

Additionally, shops must be closed after 7:00 PM on:

Good Friday

May 4th

December 24th

If you wish to be open on other days or times, you can apply for an acknowledgement only in the case of incidental events or promotions.

What to do?

You apply for the acknowledgement at the municipality. Please indicate on which days and times you would like your shop to be open and why.
DE municipality will send you a message regarding whether you will receive the acknowledgement.
The municipality may impose Requirements on the exemption. You must comply with these Requirements .

Submitting an appeal

If the municipality rejects your application or if you disagree with the “ Requirements,” you can file an appeal with the “ Executive board ” of the Business Appeals Board.

The application must meet the requirements set out in the retail trading hours regulations (please refer to local regulations for this).

Business owners can apply to the municipality for a “ Sunday shopping ” permit. This must be done in a timely manner. The municipality will publish a notice in the newspaper regarding this.
