Child Care Inspection

It is important that a childcare center, child care provider’s home, or preschool be of high quality. If you operate a childcare facility, your location will therefore be inspected annually by an inspector from the Municipal Health Service (GGD).

How does it work?

The GGD inspector will make an unannounced visit to check whether:

  • your educational policy is followed in practice
  • There are enough staff members to accommodate the number of children in the daycare center
  • the groups aren't too large
  • every employee has a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG)
  • every employee has the appropriate credentials
  • there is a safe and healthy shelter

The inspector also asks the parent committee questions. The GGD prepares a report on the inspection.

For Parents

The National Child Care Registry (LRK) contains information on all child care organizations that meet the legal requirements at the time they begin operations. You can also find each organization’s registration number there. You may need this number when applying for the child care subsidy. You can also download the GGD reports from the LRK website.

What should I do?

You must post the inspection report from the child care regulator on your website. If you do not have a website, you must make the report available for review in a location accessible to parents and staff.

If you, as a parent, have a complaint about a child care organization, you should first take your complaint to the organization itself. If you do not receive a response or if your complaint is not taken seriously, you can submit your complaint to the Child Care Disputes Committee( ) within 3 months.
