Amazing Winners of the 2026 Voorschoten Awards
During a festive evening at the Dorpskerk, the Voorschoten Awards were presented for the fourth time. The winners received a traveling trophy in the categories of Youth, Culture, Sports, Welfare & Society, and Organization.
Alderwomen Rachèl van Hellemondt and Esther Mieremet presented the Voorschoten Awards. They did so under the watchful eyes of last year’s winners, family and friends of the nominees, and other interested attendees. As one of the interludes, the audience sang the village song “ Parel ” at the Vliet at the top of their lungs. The winners by category are listed below.
Youth Award – Eline de Kleij, Krijn Harlaar, Melle Schreurs, Joran Broekhuizen, and Mark van Dorsselaer from Leif Erikson
Eline, Krijn, Melle, Joran, and Mark are the new leaders of the various age groups at the Leif Erikson Scout Troop. Even at a young age, they’ve taken on the responsibility of ensuring that members ages 5 through 18 have a wonderful Saturday every week.
Culture Award – Marjo Kommeren of the Voorschoten Theater Group
Marjo has been the beating heart of the Voorschoten Theater Group for many years. As chairperson, she champions the association’s interests with boundless energy, both behind the scenes and during meetings. With conviction and dedication, she is the face of the theater group.
Sports Award – Natascha and Hilde from Avanti Voorschoten
Natascha and Hilde have been deeply involved with Avanti Voorschoten for decades, including by establishing a competitive gymnastics program, which has made competitive girls’ gymnastics accessible again in Voorschoten. They are also there for their colleagues and the gymnasts outside the gym.
Well-being & Society Award – Marjo Vonk and John Vonk of the Voorschoten Food Bank
Marjo and John are the driving forces behind the Voorschoten Food Bank. With the support of several other volunteers, they ensure that clients receive a generous food package each week that is tailored to their needs as much as possible within the limits of the available selection.
Organization Award – Voorschoten Beachcombers
Every week, the Voorschoten Beach Cleaners work to keep the village clean. Inspections show that the amount of litter has dropped dramatically since the Beach Cleaners began their volunteer work. In addition, the group brings people together and encourages physical activity.

Since 2023, the Voorschoten Awards have been held during the Weekend of Voorschoten. The awards were created to honor exceptional contributions to Voorschoten and to recognize active residents.
