The Municipality of Voorschoten Makes Its Draft Climate Adaptation Policy Available for Public Review
Today, the municipality of Voorschoten is making its draft climate adaptation policy available for public review. The policy outlines how the municipality plans to ensure a green, livable, and climate-resilient environment in the coming years. The public has until February 13 to submit comments.
Voorschoten faces major challenges in the areas of energy and climate. That is why the city council has adopted the Energy and Climate Vision. The vision outlines the role the municipality can play, taking its limited resources into account. One of the action items is to develop a climate adaptation policy. With the Draft Climate Adaptation Policy for Voorschoten, the municipality is now taking its first step.
Important for Everyone
“Whether you live, work, or run a business in Voorschoten—we’re committed to providing you with a green, livable, and climate-resilient environment,” says René Zoetemelk, alderman for Sustainability, Environment, and Energy. “But that won’t happen on its own. Just think of the dry summers or the heavy downpours we’re facing more and more often. That’s why climate adaptation policy is so important for everyone.”
In this policy, the municipality outlines how we intend to develop our village in the coming years. This includes ensuring sufficient green space to help cool the area, preventing flooding during rainstorms, and constructing and renovating homes and other buildings in a climate-resilient manner. Hans van der Elst, Alderman for Public Housing and Housing Construction: “I am very pleased that the draft policy is now complete. But before the city council adopts it, we’d like to give all residents the opportunity to provide feedback on our ideas.”

A paper copy of the draft is available for review through February 13 at the Customer Contact Center at the municipal office located at Leidseweg 25 in Voorschoten. You can visit the center Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
