Vision on Energy and Climate
Voorschoten faces major challenges regarding energy and climate. And they affect everyone: residents, businesses, other organisations, and the municipality. But also the living environment: all plants and animals, in short, the ecosystem itself.
The Vision on Energy and Climate, adopted by the Voorschoten Municipal Council ( municipal council ), marks the starting point for the challenges we face together as a municipality. It provides direction for the sustainability goals we are working toward together. Everyone wants a high quality of the environment, a climate-resilient living environment, and a sustainable energy supply. The question is how we will achieve these goals together.
Climate adaptation policy
Regarding the climate adaptation theme, policy was developed in 2022 that provides an initial impetus for a climate-resilient Voorschoten. Climate adaptation involves adjusting the living environment so that the consequences of climate change have minimal impact on daily life, Health, the economy, and nature. Policy for this was drawn up last year. Its title is: Green, livable, and climate-resilient Voorschoten. The policy has not yet been adopted, because everyone in Voorschoten can still submit a response (a view). Therefore, it is called 'Draft Climate Adaptation Policy'.
The Draft Climate Adaptation Policy contains goals and principles for climate-resilient new construction. Objectives have also been formulated to design the village in a green, livable, and climate-resilient manner in the coming years. In the coming years, we will elaborate on these goals together with you.
Public inspection
A paper copy of the Draft Climate Adaptation Policy for Voorschoten was available for public review for six weeks, from January 2 to February 13, 2023, at the Customer Contact centre at the municipal office located at Leidseweg 25 in Voorschoten.

On Thursday 13 April, the climate adaptation policy, the Response Document, and the Amendment Document were discussed in the Housing, Space & Green Committee. The Response Document and the Amendment Document contain a summary of the 10 views received, as well as the changes made in response to these views.
