Vision on Energy and Climate
Voorschoten faces major challenges when it comes to energy and climate. And these challenges affect everyone: residents, businesses, other organizations, and the municipality. But they also affect the natural environment—all plants and animals—in short, the ecosystem itself.
The Energy and Climate Vision, adopted by the Voorschoten City Council, marks the starting point for the challenges we face together as a municipality. It provides direction for the sustainability goals we are working toward together. Everyone wants a high-quality environment, a climate-resilient living environment, and a sustainable energy supply. The question is how we will achieve these goals together.
Climate Adaptation Policy
In 2022, policies were developed on the topic of climate adaptation that mark the first step toward a climate-resilient Voorschoten. Climate adaptation involves adjusting the living environment so that the effects of climate change have as little impact as possible on daily life, health, the economy, and nature. A policy on this topic was drafted last year. It is titled: Green, Livable, and Climate-Resilient Voorschoten. The policy has not yet been finalized, as everyone in Voorschoten still has the opportunity to provide feedback (a statement of opinion). That is why it is called the “Draft Climate Adaptation Policy.”
The Draft Climate Adaptation Policy sets out goals and guiding principles for constructing new buildings that are adapted to the climate. It also outlines objectives for making the village green, livable, and climate-resilient in the coming years. In the coming years, we will work with you to further develop these goals.
Public Inspection
A paper copy of the Draft Climate Adaptation Policy for Voorschoten was available for public review for six weeks, from January 2 to February 13, 2023, at the Customer Contact Center at the municipal office located at Leidseweg 25 in Voorschoten.

Opinions
On Thursday, April 13, the climate adaptation policy, the Response Memorandum, and the Amendments Memorandum were discussed in the Housing, Spatial Planning, and Green Spaces Committee. The Response Memorandum and the Amendment Memorandum contain a summary of the 10 comments received, as well as the changes that were implemented in response to those comments.
