The Municipality of Voorschoten is participating in the National Tile-Flipping Championship!

Every resident can help Voorschoten win the National Tile-Flipping Championship. Alderman Schokker, responsible for sustainability and the environment: “You can help by replacing tiles in your garden with greenery, such as plants or flowers. Be sure to register on the NK Tile-Flipping Championship website so the organizers can track how many tiles are actually being removed. You can do so atwww.nk-tegelwippen.nl/meedoen/. That way, we’ll know exactly how many tiles each municipality has actually removed. I’m convinced that, together, we’ll make sure Voorschoten wins in a landslide!”

Tegelwip Neighborhood Days

Participating in the National Tile-Flipping Championship is easier than ever. The municipality of Voorschoten will be helping residents in various ways. For example, neighbors can work together to flip tiles during one of the tile-flipping neighborhood days. During a neighborhood day, participants will learn how hard surfaces such as tiles or pavers can be replaced with plants, and they’ll receive free plants in exchange for the tiles they turn in.

Residents who want to get to work themselves can ask the municipality to have the tiles picked up free of charge by the “tile taxi.” More information about the “tile taxi” and the neighborhood days can be found atwww.voorschoten.nl/NK-tegelwippen.

Fewer tiles = a more pleasant living environment

The NK Tile-Flipping Championship is being organized to further emphasize the importance of green spaces in the city. Replacing tiles with greenery is simply good for nature. A green garden helps keep the area cooler on hot summer days. Rain can seep into the ground many times faster, which helps prevent flooding. And above all, a green environment has been shown to promote the mental and physical health of residents.
