What is the NK Tile-Flipping Championship?
The NK Tile-Flipping Competition is an annual, nationwide contest in which municipalities challenge each other to see who can replace the most tiles, asphalt, or other hard surfaces with greenery. Replacing tiles with greenery helps various animals, such as butterflies and bees, survive better in towns and cities. Making your garden greener also allows water to drain more effectively during heavy rainstorms, helping to prevent flooding. Furthermore, plants provide more shade and cooling; on hot summer days, this can make a difference of up to 5 degrees.
