Municipality Launches Grant Program for Greening Initiatives
The Municipality of Voorschoten is launching a grant program for residents and business owners who want to green their roofs or gardens. A maximum grant of 3,000 euros is available per application, until the grant cap of 100,000 euros is reached. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
With the new subsidy program, the municipality of Voorschoten is helping residents and business owners to green their roofs or gardens at a lower cost. First, this may involve installing a green roof. A second option is to install a gravel bed, a rainwater ditch, or a WADI (a vegetated ditch that fills with water during rainstorms). Third, it may involve replacing paved surfaces with semi-permeable paving.
A Sustainable, Future-Ready Municipality
“By fully or partially reimbursing the costs of these sensible measures, the municipality of Voorschoten is helping to create a greener environment, reduce flooding, and alleviate heat stress,” says Alderman Hubert Schokker. “Residents, business owners, and visitors alike will benefit from this. Together, we are investing in a sustainable, future-proof municipality where residents and business owners are encouraged to actively contribute to climate solutions.”
Homeowners, representatives of homeowners' associations, and tenants
Not only homeowners, owners of commercial properties, and representatives of homeowners’ associations, but also tenants with their landlord’s permission can apply for the subsidy. Both material and labor costs may be reimbursed, up to a maximum of 3,000 euros per applicant. The municipality has allocated 100,000 euros for this subsidy program through the end of 2026. Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
