Help with Financial Matters and Debt

Do you have trouble keeping track of your finances? The Nibud website, , offers a step-by-step guide to managing your finances. And on the Wijzer in geldzaken website, , you’ll find a list of online household budget books you can use. This way, you’ll have all your financial information in one place.

If you are no longer able to pay off your debts, you can seek debt counseling from various organizations, including your local municipality.

How does it work?

You can get help managing your expenses. For example, some municipalities offer a course to help ensure that you don’t spend more money than you earn.

A professional counselor will examine the cause of your financial problems. The counselor will try to reach agreements with you and your creditors regarding the repayment of the debt. You and your creditors must adhere to these agreements.

Apply for Debt Assistance

Submit an application to a social services agency, such as your local municipality. The agency will assess whether you are eligible for debt counseling. They will consider factors such as your income, assets, fixed expenses, and debts. They will also determine whether you can make repayments and, if so, how much. You will then be notified whether you will receive assistance.

Debt Assistance for Entrepreneurs

Do you own your own business? If so, you can seek debt counseling from your accountant, a lawyer, banks, or the Institute for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises. You can also apply for financial assistance for self-employed individuals.
