If you, as a citizen, business, or organization, wish to use municipal land, you can file a notification with the municipality or apply for a permit. This may be for purposes such as placing a trash container, a scaffold, a construction trailer, a portable toilet, or storing building materials such as sand, gravel, stones, and so on.

You must always file a notification; the scope of the project determines whether you also need to apply for a permit. See “How It Works” for an explanation of the notification or permit process. For both, you’ll need a sketch showing the location of use.

How does it work?

Large structures larger than 15 m² or wider than 2.50 m (Permit required)

The application must be received by the municipality at least 8 weeks before you wish to use the public land. If the application is submitted later than that, the permit may not yet have been granted by the time you wish to use the land. Please note: In the digital notification form, we ask that you include a drawing (sketch) showing the location where you intend to place the materials and any traffic control measures that may be necessary.

Small-scale use up to 15 m² or less than 2.50 m (Notification)

For uses covering an area of less than 15 m² and less than 2.50 m in width, general rules apply, and a notification is sufficient. The notification must be received by the municipality at least 2 weeks before you intend to use the public land. If the notification is submitted at a later date, you run the risk that it will not be accepted. In the digital notification form, we ask that you include a sketch or description indicating the location where you intend to place the materials.

If the area of public land used during the work exceeds 15 square meters, you must still apply for a permit.
