Registration with a Childcare Agency or Childcare Center

If you want to start a child care agency or child care center, you must register with the municipality. This is because you must be listed in the National Register of Child Care and Preschools. Without this registration, the parents of the children in your care will not be eligible for the child care subsidy. 

How does it work?

It is the child care agency’s responsibility to apply to the municipality for the registration of child care providers. Anyone who wants to become a child care provider must therefore contact a child care agency. You must report any changes to your registration information to the municipality.

What should I do?

You can apply using the application forms on the Dutch government’s website,, which are made available by the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment. The GGD will review your application. Only after the GGD issues a positive decision can the municipality enter you in the registry. The municipality will notify you as soon as you have been registered.
