Electric driving and charging stations

The municipality of Voorschoten encourages the use of electric transport. Electric cars are the future because they are clean, quiet, and efficient. Electric driving helps to make the air healthier and makes us less dependent on depleting and polluting fuels, such as petrol and diesel. More electric transport also ensures less noise pollution.

Electric charging stations

The growth of the number of electric vehicles in Voorschoten is increasing. The municipality encourages the use of electric cars by installing electric charging stations on municipal land. This number will increase further in the future.

The municipality of Voorschoten, together with various regional municipalities, participates in the collective concession for the South-West Netherlands region for the installation and operation of public charging stations, organized by the municipality of Rotterdam. The concession holder is Equans Infra & Mobility BV. This is the only party that installs, maintains, and operates charging stations in Voorschoten.

New charging stations and lodging an objection

Since 1 January 2026, the way locations for new charging stations are determined has changed. Previously, residents could request a location, but this is no longer possible. New locations are determined based on the charging data of the current stations. If charging takes place often enough somewhere, a new charging location will be added.

The municipality goes through a traffic decree procedure for this. Traffic decrees are published on the website www.officielebekendmakingen.nl. You can object to a traffic decree via Lodge an objection. From the moment the traffic decree is published, you have 6 weeks to do this.

Reporting charging problems or a malfunction

Are you having trouble charging, or do you want to report a problem? Please call the service number at 088 3692914. Health Make sure you have the charging station’s number handy. The service department is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service number is also posted on the charging station. In many cases, the issue can be resolved remotely. If this isn’t possible, a technician will be dispatched to the charging station as soon as possible.

Charging with your own electricity

It is not permitted to charge an electric car using private power while the car is parked in a public parking space and powered via a cable rolled out across the pavement from private property. Such a situation can cause obstruction or lead to hazardous situations for pedestrians. More information on this can be found in the note: Charging with private power

Charging from home via a cable channel

Don't have a parking spot on your own property, such as a driveway, garage, or carport? But would you like to charge your car using your own electricity? In some cases, this is possible. If there are public parking spaces along the sidewalk near your home, you can submit a request for a cable trench. You can run your own charging cable through this trench.
