Charging from home via a cable channel
Do you not have a parking space on your own property, such as a driveway, garage, or carport, but would you like to charge your car using your own electricity? In some cases, this is possible. If there are public parking spaces along the pavement near your home, you can submit an application for a cable channel. You can place your own charging cable in this channel.
Installation and costs of cable channel
- The municipality will install the cable channel for you. You only pay the costs for the materials amounting to € 300 including VAT. The municipality pays the installation costs;
- The cable channel tiles are and remain the property of the municipality of Voorschoten;
- The parking space remains public and can therefore also be used by other motorists.
When are you eligible?
An application is evaluated based on the following criteria:
- The applicant is a resident of Voorschoten and is listed enrolled at the address of the residence where a cable trench is being requested.
- The applicant must be able to demonstrate (by means of a (provisional) purchase or lease agreement) that he or she owns an electric vehicle.
- The applicant does not have a parking space on the property. “Property” also includes parking spaces owned by a homeowners’ association (VvE) and/or the (mandatory) option to rent or purchase a parking space in conjunction with a residence.
- The public parking lot is directly adjacent to the sidewalk behind which the applicant's residence is located.
- The cable trench does not cross any road, green space, or bike path. The cable trench crosses only the sidewalk.
- The charging station, including the connector, is located on the applicant's own property.
- A maximum of one cable tray is allowed per address.
The sidewalk where the cable trench will be installed has a maximum width of 330 cm.
The cable trench will be installed exclusively by the municipality or a contractor designated by the municipality.
The cable trench tiles are and will remain the property of the municipality of Voorschoten.
Even if all the criteria listed in paragraph b are met, the application may be rejected due to specific circumstances, at the municipality’s discretion. The application will in any case be rejected if:
- the usability and/or safety of the road cannot be guaranteed; or
- the sidewalk is structurally unsuitable for installing a cable trench; or
- the cable tray is not considered suitable for the local situation; or
- the applicant can use an existing cable trench.
