The Velostrada Bicycle Route Will Be Further Improved in Voorschoten
The Velostrada through-route has been a huge success since its completion in 2013. More and more travelers are choosing to bike and are using this route between Leiden and The Hague for commuting, for example. The Province of South Holland and the municipality of Voorschoten will implement several improvements to the route in 2024, making cycling even more appealing.
Last year, the Province of South Holland and the municipality of Voorschoten conducted a study into measures to make the section of the route in Voorschoten even safer. The study found that the curves in the bike path can be widened. Because the bike path is often used by pedestrians, we also want to construct several walking paths in the green belt next to the bike path. This will create enough space for both cyclists and pedestrians.
Open House on March 20
The Province of South Holland is the initiator of the entire continuous cycling route and is responsible for coordinating efforts among the various municipalities. The Municipality of Voorschoten is responsible for the implementation projects within our municipal boundaries. That is why the province and the Municipality of Voorschoten would like to jointly inform you about the improvements to the Voorschoten section of the Velostrada during an open house. This open house will take place on Wednesday, March 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Dorpskerk. No registration is required.
During the open house, we will provide you with information about the planned work. Representatives from the province and the municipality will be on hand to answer all your questions. Afterward, all visitors who wish to do so will receive the answers to the questions asked during the event via email.

Once the plans have been finalized, the Municipality of Voorschoten aims to contract a contractor for the work before the summer vacation. The work is scheduled to begin after the summer vacation and is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
