Proof of financial guarantee and/or provision of lodging

Some foreign visitors need a visa to visit the Netherlands. In some cases, a letter of sponsorship is required to obtain this visa.

In the letter of guarantee and/or accommodation confirmation, you explain why you invited the person—for example, for a vacation. This helps that person obtain a visa.

What should I do?

Visit the Nederland Wereldwijd website at to find out which nationalities require a visa.

You must fill out a form and have your signature notarized by the municipality. If you are married or in a registered partnership, both of you must be present at the municipality and both sign the form there.

Please note:

Do not sign the form yet! Because your signature must be notarized, you may only sign it in the presence of a municipal official.

How long does it take?

The municipality will certify your signature immediately. You will then receive the form back right away.
