The Professor Einsteinlaan housing project can get underway

On February 1, 2024, the Voorschoten Municipal Council ( municipal council ) unanimously approved the environmental permit—including the response to the public comments—for the housing development project at Professor Einsteinlaan 5. It became clear this week that no objections to the construction plans had been received. This makes the “ licence ” irrevocable, and Bouwbedrijf Niersman can now begin construction on the 24 new homes.

Alderman Van der Elst, Housing Portfolio: “This milestone is worth celebrating! At a time like this, when we’re facing a severe housing shortage, it’s obviously excellent news that these homes are actually going to be built. In this case, we’re talking about 17 single-family rental homes and 7 rental apartments, 6 of which are public housing units. We wish Niersman a successful construction period and hope they will be able to deliver the first homes by the end of 2025.”

“In 2018, we acquired the former school site at 5 Professor Einsteinlaan, along with two other sites, following a public tender by the municipality,” says Robert Gras of Niersman Project Development. “Based on the municipal guidelines established in 2020, Niersman Project Development has now finalized the plans for the residential development on Professor Einsteinlaan, called Vossenburght.”

Local residents had the opportunity to review the plans during various sessions and to share their wishes and suggestions. The municipality’s various wishes—particularly those related to climate adaptation measures—have also been incorporated into the plan. For example, rainwater is collected and reused, and two trees have been replanted. Green roofs are also part of the final plans.
