Councilman Paul de Bruijn Visits the Glazen Radiohuis in Berkel en Rodenrijs
Having trouble reading, writing, or navigating a computer? About 7 percent of Voorschoten’s residents struggle with these basic skills. Councilman Paul de Bruijn visited the Glazen Radiohuis in Berkel en Rodenrijs today to see how the DJs are producing a live radio show on the topic of low literacy.
From Wednesday, September 10, through Saturday, September 13, various DJs will host broadcasts on low literacy. In addition to municipal council members, organizations and language ambassadors will also be guests. The broadcasts can be followed live at www.glazenradiohuis.nl and, but visitors can actually get a behind-the-scenes look at Westerplein in the center of Berkel en Rodenrijs.
Together Digitally
In the September 12 broadcast, Imad Hader of the Sakiena Foundation discusses the “Samen Digitaal” project. Through accessible workshops and collaboration with local organizations, Sakiena helps vulnerable residents develop digital skills. In addition, the foundation hosts a free walk-in consultation hour every Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Jan Evertsenlaan 199. See also www.sakiena.nl and .
Reading and Writing Week
“If you have trouble reading or writing, it’s often difficult to use a computer or smartphone as well,” says Alderman Paul de Bruijn. “That, in turn, makes it hard to find a job or manage your finances, for example. That’s why I’m glad that, with the Glazen Radiohuis and Reading and Writing Week, we’re taking extra time to focus on language and low literacy.”
