Councilwoman Erika Spil Unveils a Memorial Tree

On Tuesday, April 12, Councilwoman Erika Spil unveiled a special memorial tree at Rosenburgh Cemetery. The memorial tree is a monument in the shape of a tree, on which metal commemorative leaves are hung. This allows every visitor to remember their loved ones.

These loved ones do not have to be buried in the cemetery. The names of the deceased are engraved on the tree’s metal leaves. Each leaf bears the name of the deceased along with their date of birth and date of death. The cemetery administrator attaches the leaf to the tree in consultation with the next of kin. There is space for 128 commemorative leaves, and the cost per leaf—including engraving—is €116 for up to 10 years.

Sundial

At Rosenburgh Cemetery, it is currently possible to scatter the ashes of a loved one. Bereaved family members can also request a commemorative plaque to be affixed to the sundial near the scattering area. Because there is high demand for this and the sundial is nearly full, the municipality has begun searching for an alternative. Councilmember Spil: “With this memorial tree, we’re offering families a beautiful new way to ensure their loved one’s name lives on.”
