City Council Member and Youth Run First Lap on the New Voorschoten '97 Track

The very first lap on the new track. To mark the occasion, Councilman Hubert Schokker and several youth members of Voorschoten ’97 took their places at the starting line yesterday. Following the starting signal given by Joost van Kempen, chair of the track and field committee, and an energetic first lap, the track is now officially open.

The alderman and young runners at the starting line

Over the past few months, the outdated gravel track at Adegeest Sports Park was replaced with a modern synthetic tartan track. Thanks to this new addition, members of Voorschoten ‘97 can now train properly in every discipline. In addition to running, they can, for example, practice the long jump, high jump, and discus throw. School classes are also welcome to come and play sports on and around the new track.

Sports Facility Policy

Last year, the city council gave a major boost to sports with its new sports facility policy. In addition to the launch of “Samen Gezond Voorschoten,” the construction of the track and field facility was one of the key investments. Alderman Hubert Schokker: “I am very proud of this brand-new track and field facility. It’s wonderful that this long-cherished wish of the athletes has been realized. I wish all users—young and old—lots of fun on the track!”

New Activities and Competitions

Owned by the municipality of Voorschoten, the track and field facility is a municipal sports facility. To allow residents to enjoy this new addition as much as possible, Voorschoten ’97 will be organizing new activities and competitions. On opening day, the club will hit the ground running with an extensive program, ranging from the annual club championships and a 5-kilometer race to drinks, a meal, and a musical surprise.
