What do we want for the arts in Voorschoten in the future?
The municipality of Voorschoten is commissioning a cultural vision. A cultural compass that provides direction for concrete plans, while also leaving room to respond to current events. What cultural activities are available in Voorschoten? What do we want for “the arts in Voorschoten” in the future? And how are we going to put that into practice? To answer these questions, the municipality has hired an independent firm with expertise in the cultural sector, the relevant topics, and the region.
“My name is Guido Marchena (34), director of the Leiden Cultural Fund and a cultural broker in the city. I’m a musician by training, and I particularly enjoy this role because I come from a village myself and have experienced firsthand how important a vibrant cultural and sports sector is. The many arts and music associations, clubs, individuals, and events, together with the sports clubs and other volunteer organizations, form the glue that holds our community together. That is why I sincerely hope that we will soon have a cultural vision in which we can all see ourselves reflected. A document that builds on the achievements we’ve made, articulates new ambitions, and in which we face the future with a realistic outlook and an open mind toward one another.”

Results of the flash poll incorporated into the cultural vision
Last September, nearly 600 residents of Voorschoten shared what they value about the existing cultural facilities and what they feel is still missing. For example, the library and the art house cinema emerged as the most important facilities. An expansion of theater and music performances would be appreciated. The results of the quick survey will be incorporated into the cultural vision.
