What is the Duivenvoorde Corridor?

The “Duivenvoorde Corridor” National Buffer Zone Project is included in the Rural Area Zoning Plan adopted by the municipal council. This project was originally launched at the initiative of the national government and the province of South Holland and taken up by the municipalities of Voorschoten and Leidschendam-Voorburg. Agreements regarding this project have been laid out in the regional plan and in various covenants.

The goal of the project is to restore the landscape by removing the existing greenhouse horticulture and replacing it with a greener, open layout. In part to fund this “green” corridor, the rural zoning plan includes three development areas where residential construction is permitted. To establish the Duivenvoorde Corridor and the necessary housing development, the required land must be purchased, greenhouses must be demolished, and homes must then be built.
