WarmtelinQ, Leiden, and Voorschoten Sign Agreement for T-Joint
The executive boards of Voorschoten and Leiden signed a letter of intent this week with WarmtelinQ (a 100% subsidiary of Gasunie) for the construction of a T-junction. It states that WarmtelinQ wants to create a tapping point on the pipeline to which Voorschoten and Leiden can connect.

At the council meeting on July 4, the “ municipal council ” supported the heating vision that was presented. The group views a collective heating system as a promising option. The next steps in the process will determine to what extent such a system can actually be implemented. Signing the letter of intent for a T-piece is a first step.
Important step
“You might be thinking, ‘What do we need a T-piece for?’” laughs Hubert Schokker, a member of the Alderman . “But this really is an important step. Because thanks to this agreement, Leiden and Voorschoten will soon be able to access the heat from the Port of Rotterdam that’s being transported this way. This will allow us to heat a large portion of our homes and buildings in the future.”
Ruud Bos, general director of WarmtelinQ, adds: “As WarmtelinQ, we are pleased with this first step, which gives an impetus to the energy transition in Leiden and Voorschoten. We look forward to the next steps in the future.”
In active discussion
In the coming period, the municipality will engage in extensive discussions. Residents will also be allowed to share their views on the plans with WarmtelinQ and – for those who prefer it – other sustainable solutions that help reduce CO2 emissions.
