WarmtelinQ reaches new milestone with longest drilling project
WarmtelinQ has reached a significant milestone. A massive heat transmission pipeline is being laid between Stevenshof in Leiden and Hofweg in Voorschoten. This is the longest borehole of the entire project: a directional borehole measuring 1,562 metre.
The drilling is part of the Rijswijk-Leiden route, where WarmtelinQ began work in March 2026.
One and a half kilometre of pipe
Pulling the pipe into place is the visible culmination of months of preparation. It involves two sections of pipe, each nearly eight hundred metre. The first four hundred metre of the first pipe are pulled into the ground. Then, the second pipe, which is about eight hundred metre , is welded to it. Next, this pipe—which is approximately twelve hundred metre long—is lowered into the ground.
Thirty metre deep
The first pipeline installation will take place around mid-August. This will involve the supply line. The second installation will take place in early September, this time for the return line. Each installation takes about two days. On average, the pipeline will be buried 30 metre s deep.
