Setting off fireworks

Legal fireworks can be identified by the label “intended for private use.” The label must include the following:

• a description or image of the type of fireworks and their expected effects
• the (trade) name and address of the manufacturer, importer, or dealer established in the Netherlands
• the manufacturer's part number and the year of manufacture
• a good user manual in Dutch
• the minimum age of the person to whom the fireworks may be sold
• the phrase: "For outdoor use only"
• NEM: the total amount of pyrotechnic substance in the product

If fireworks do not meet all of the above criteria, they are illegal. You may not buy or set off illegal fireworks. Always buy fireworks from a retailer with a valid license. That way, you can be sure the fireworks are legal. These retailers have a sign in their window that reads: “Fireworks for sale. No smoking or open flames.”
