Continued collaboration brings vibrancy to Voorschoten and Wassenaar
On Thursday, December 17, the municipality of Voorschoten, the municipality of Wassenaar, Wassenaar-Voorschoten Marketing, and the Wassenaar Library-Tourist Office signed an agreement to continue their successful partnership for the next three years.
With stunning natural scenery, distinctive cultural heritage, and charming village centers, Voorschoten and Wassenaar offer many opportunities for tourism and recreation. The focus is on improving the quality of amenities, increasing employment, strengthening the business and investment climate, and enhancing cultural heritage and green spaces. By working together, municipalities and businesses can capitalize on the opportunities available.
Councilwoman Caroline Klaver (Wassenaar) says: “It’s important that we continue to work together to build a thriving local economy. For our residents and visitors, the tourist office is a great source of information about events, activities, and beautiful, undiscovered spots in our own villages. If visitors know what’s available, they’ll be more likely to plan a longer visit, explore multiple destinations, come back again, and share their wonderful experiences. That’s good for our economy.”
Much has been accomplished
Municipalities and Wassenaar-Voorschoten Marketing have been collaborating since 2017. Much has been accomplished since then. For example, tourist information offices have been opened in Voorschoten and Wassenaar, and the revamped website Wassenaar-Voorschoten.info now lists all tourist and recreational facilities. There are many more plans in the works for the coming years. Continuing this partnership is therefore a logical step.
Alderman Paul de Bruijn (Voorschoten) explains: “Visitors are important to the economy and vitality of our villages and are not bound by municipal boundaries. They generate additional spending and contribute to employment. We all benefit from that. The partnership agreement for the tourist office in Voorschoten expires at the end of 2022. So people in Voorschoten can still turn to the tourist office for travel information.”
Ralf Meppelder, chair of Wassenaar-Voorschoten Marketing and director of Kasteel de Wittenburg: “We want to bring the story of this unique area to life and offer a warm welcome. Everyone benefits from this. As a local marketing organization, we work within regional partnerships to make this happen.”
Mariska Koning (Wassenaar Tourist Office and Library Director): “Wassenaar is a unique destination, not only for visitors from outside the area, but also for the village’s residents. The library in Wassenaar is a natural gathering place in the town center. Since its opening in 2020, residents, visitors from outside the municipality, and (foreign) tourists have been finding their way to the VVV in Wassenaar. The VVV aligns with the informational role of a contemporary and enterprising library, offering a wider variety of activities and collaboration partners.”
The VVV offers a wealth of useful information about tourism and recreational activities in Voorschoten, Wassenaar, and the (immediate) surrounding area. There, you can find hiking maps, biking maps, boating maps, brochures on tourism and recreational facilities, a tourism and recreation map, VVV gift cards, regional products, and much more.
