Residents of Voorschoten can once again take CPR courses

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Voorschoten First Aid Association has resumed offering CPR courses to residents of Voorschoten. For many years, Dick Lelieveld organized these courses on behalf of Voorschoten Voor Elkaar. Since 2016, Voorschoten Voor Elkaar has been focusing more on its core activities as a result of a reorganization. The Voorschoten First Aid Association is now the organizer of the CPR courses.

Board member Tirza van der Meijden: "We’ve noticed that there’s a great need for first-aid training. The demand for quality CPR courses even seems to be growing. That’s understandable, because people are increasingly realizing that taking a course can save lives. Dick Lelieveld has done a great job coordinating these courses in recent years. That has been very important for Voorschoten. We’re pleased that our First Aid Association has been able to take over these training sessions and that we can thus make a tangible contribution to the health and safety of Voorschoten residents.”

The Voorschoten First Aid Association operates in accordance with the guidelines of the Oranje Kruis and is an official CPR partner of the Dutch Heart Foundation,” said Tirza van der Meijden.

The Hartveilig Voorschoten Foundation Needs Help

As the initiator of the 6-minute zone in Voorschoten, Dick Lelieveld has also made a major contribution to making Voorschoten a safer place. Since December 2020, the Hartveilig Voorschoten Foundation has taken ownership of the 19 AEDs previously owned by the municipality of Voorschoten. These are available 24/7 and are all located in outdoor areas. The locations of these AEDs and our contact information can be found on the homepage of the Hartveilig Voorschoten Foundation at .

To ensure a comprehensive AED network, the Hartveilig Voorschoten Foundation needs the help of Voorschoten residents. As many AEDs as possible need to be registered with HartslagNu. It’s also important that as many people as possible who hold a CPR certification or first aid diploma register as citizen responders with HartslagNu’s national dispatch system. As soon as the 112 emergency dispatch center receives a CPR call, these individuals will be contacted to provide immediate assistance or retrieve an AED.

The Hartveilig Voorschoten Foundation is an official partner of HartslagNu and is designated as a public benefit organization (ANBI). The foundation is regularly approached by individuals and homeowners’ associations who would like to have a (neighborhood) AED. In many cases, an AED is already available in the immediate vicinity. The closer the AED is to the victim’s location, the better. A single AED covers an area of 500 meters around it.
