Voorschoten joins the Hollandse Plassen

On April 15, Councilman Paul de Bruijn signed the municipal cooperation agreement for the Hollandse Plassen on behalf of the municipality of Voorschoten. With this move, he joins municipalities such as Alpen aan den Rijn, Aalsmeer, Teylingen, Haarlemmermeer, and Nieuwkoop.

The Hollandse Plassen Platform works with businesses and municipalities to further develop the Hollandse Plassen region and to improve accessibility and raise its profile. This region includes the Braassemermeer, Kagerplassen, Loosdrechtse Plassen, Nieuwkoopse Plassen, Reeuwijkse Plassen, Vinkeveense Plassen, and Westeinderplassen, as well as Vlietland. No other region offers such a diverse range of attractions and cultural history as the Hollandse Plassen. It is larger than the Frisian Lakes and is centrally located between the major cities.

For Voorschoten, this partnership holds great potential. The alderman said: “Given our location on the Vliet, across from Vlietland, and existing plans outlined in the downtown development vision—along with the focus on the Hollandse Plassen development in the Holland Rijnland regional investment agenda—this offers opportunities to promote recreational boating and boost the local economy in Voorschoten.”
