Voorschoten is organizing a free "Politically Active" course
How does the municipality make decisions on certain issues? What are the responsibilities of the municipal council? What exactly does a council member do? To answer these and many more questions, the Municipal Clerk’s Office of the municipal council of Voorschoten is organizing a free “Politically Active” course this fall. The course is suitable for anyone who wants to learn more about the municipality and the municipal council, and especially for residents who might be interested in becoming politically active.
The “Politically Active” course is co-organized by ProDemos—Center for Democracy and the Rule of Law. ProDemos is active in schools, in the House of Representatives, and at local meetings. The organization is primarily committed to engaging all target groups in politics. The course is therefore suitable for every resident.
Active council member
Patty Wijnen-Lunenburg took the “Politically Active” course in 2021. She was immediately enthusiastic and is now a council member. Patty: “It’s incredibly fun and interesting to be able to help make decisions on specific issues in Voorschoten. Think of building a new school, supporting sports clubs and cultural initiatives, or improving traffic safety. You can really make a difference at the local level.”
Practical Information
The course consists of six evening sessions on October 1, 15, and 22, and November 5, 12, and 14, at the “ town hall ” in Voorschoten. Participants will learn about constitutional law, decision-making, and governance. They will also actively engage in practical assignments, including “persuasive debating” and speed dating with local council members. There is room for 30 residents.
