Voorschoten is set to gain hundreds of new homes

The municipal executive aims to finalize plans for 500 to 600 new homes in Voorschoten before the end of this council term. The focus will be on affordable housing for young people, first-time homebuyers, and seniors. This is evident from the proposal the municipal executive is submitting to the council to prioritize a number of projects. This includes not only large-scale projects such as Intratuin (129), Segaar-Arsenaal (95), and Starrenburg III (325), but also smaller ones, such as the one on Jan Wagtendonkstraat. There, the housing association De Sleutels plans to build approximately forty public housing units.

Alderman Marcel Cramwinckel (Public Housing and Housing Construction): “We urgently need to start building these homes quickly. Voorschoten has a housing shortage, and the pressure on the housing market is increasing by the day. We must therefore make tough decisions and accelerate our construction program. By prioritizing certain projects, we aim to ensure that construction can begin as soon as possible on approximately 500 to 600 homes.”

Building for Every Budget and All Target Audiences

The municipality of Voorschoten still has space for approximately 900 homes. This would increase Voorschoten’s current housing stock by nearly 10%. In the Housing Vision and the implementation plan for the Housing Agenda, the city council and the municipal executive have chosen to focus primarily on building housing in the social housing sector and for middle-income households. Alderman Cramwinckel: “If the city council approves the municipal executive’s proposal, priority will be given to building housing for young people, first-time homebuyers, and seniors, including single-person households. In this way, we are building in Voorschoten to suit every budget and for all target groups.”

The council will present the proposal at the WRG committee meeting on June 3.
