Voorschoten Introduces the Voorschoten Awards

Voorschoten is home to many volunteers, athletes, and cultural enthusiasts. The municipality would like to give all these residents a special shout-out and thank them for their tireless dedication. That is why we are launching the Voorschoten Awards. The Awards will be presented on September 8, on the eve of the Weekend of Voorschoten.

Voorschoten is a lively village. It has a vibrant community life with something for everyone, both in sports and culture. These clubs are largely kept alive by volunteers. It is thanks to the dedication and participation of committed Voorschoten residents that such a rich array of activities exists in Voorschoten. The municipality considers this to be of great value. We would also like to express our appreciation for this. That is why, for the first time this year, we are presenting the Voorschoten Awards to recognize exceptional contributions in the areas of sports, culture, and volunteer work.

Who are you registering?

Who is eligible for the Awards? Voorschoten gets to decide that for itself: all residents of Voorschoten can nominate someone starting April 15. Do you know someone who has achieved something extraordinary in the field of sports or culture? Or who has been coaching youth at the soccer club on Saturday mornings for years? Do you know someone who braves wind and rain to run errands for the senior citizens’ café? If so, you can nominate that resident for the Voorschoten Awards starting April 15.

Categories

There are three categories: sports, culture, and volunteer work. An expert jury will review all nominations and select one winner per category. There are also two youth awards for sports and culture, open to participants up to 18 years of age. The winners will be announced during the grand Awards Show at the Voorschoten Weekend. You can find more information under “Voorschoten Awards” on the municipal website. We’ll soon announce on this page how you can submit your entry.

A Cohesive Society

Participating in sports and culture keeps people engaged in society. It provides a sense of purpose and depth. Councilman Hans van der Elst is also enthusiastic. “Voorschoten is truly a village of clubs. So many initiatives are being launched in the areas of sports and culture. And it’s all thanks to a large group of volunteers. They are truly essential to a well-functioning society. And that’s why they deserve to be recognized even more. In the past, Voorschoten already had special awards for volunteers. We’re going to revive those awards: during the Weekend of Voorschoten, we’ll present awards to the athletes, cultural practitioners, and volunteers who have made exceptional contributions to our community.”
