Voorschoten Prints Winning "Plastic Soup" Posters on Garbage Trucks

This spring, seven elementary schools in Voorschoten participated in the educational program “The Plastic Soup Starts on the Sidewalk”; a total of 14 classes from grades 3 through 8. Among other activities, the children actively worked on creating posters designed to raise awareness about the importance and necessity of cleaning up litter. These posters were collected, and two winning entries were selected, which were then printed on one of the garbage trucks in Voorschoten.

On Thursday, July 7, Mayor Nadine Stemerdink unveiled these drawings at the municipal yard on Koninklijke Marinelaan in the presence of the winning classes from the Nutsschool and the Regenboog. Poppy-Fleur and Sara, the creators of the drawings, stood proudly alongside their classmates and parents next to their special works of art, which will now be driving throughout Voorschoten. 

Mayor Nadine Stemerdink: “I’m impressed by the posters the students created. They also show that the children have a very good understanding of the problem of plastic pollution and what can be done about it. That’s why we’ve decided to print the winning posters on the garbage truck so everyone can see them. I hope this encourages people not to throw their trash on the street but to put it in a trash can.”
