Nomination of New Mayor to Be Announced on March 22

On Monday, March 22, the city council will announce its nominee for the new mayor of Voorschoten. This will take place during a special public council meeting, at which the chair of the nomination committee, Ms. Katrien van Meenen, will announce the nominee. 

Council Resolution Adopted in a Closed Session

The Confidential Committee consists of the party leaders of the political groups in the city council. This committee is responsible for selecting the candidates; the council will make the final decision on the candidate on March 22. As required by law, this will take place in a closed session. The closed session will be held immediately prior to the special public meeting. 

Special meeting between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

The special meeting is expected to take place sometime between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. The exact time cannot be specified, as it depends on the duration of the closed-door meeting. Due to COVID-19, no members of the public may attend the special meeting. However, the meeting will be broadcast on the Voorschoten City Council’s YouTube channel (the link will be provided in due course in the notes accompanying the meeting agenda on the council’s website, ) and on the local broadcaster Unity.nu.

Swearing-in of the new mayor on May 17 

The recommendation of the Voorschoten City Council will be submitted to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, who is preparing the appointment. The appointment will become final once the Royal Decree has been signed by the King and the minister. The new mayor is expected to be sworn in by the King’s Commissioner on May 17 in Voorschoten.
