Virtual reality simulator at Treubplein
Sending a text message while driving. Quickly checking that one message behind the wheel.
Extremely dangerous, yet many of us do it from time to time. To highlight the dangers of distractions while driving, a virtual reality simulator will be set up on Friday, July 5, at Treubplein in Voorschoten. Between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., residents can take a seat for free in a special “3D Distraction Driving Simulation.” In this simulator, participants can experience firsthand what can happen if you take your eyes off the road for just a few seconds.
Councilmember Schokker is impressed. “We live in a world where technology is having an ever-greater impact on our daily lives. This certainly applies to traffic as well. That’s why it’s important to be aware of the dangers of distraction while driving. This virtual reality simulator offers a unique way to experience these risks. I’ll be there myself on July 5, and I encourage everyone to stop by. And let’s please adjust our behavior as well!”
Getting Behind the Wheel Virtually
During the 3D distraction driving simulation, participants put on virtual reality goggles and take a seat in a virtual car. During the virtual drive, various situations are simulated, such as texting or making phone calls while driving. This allows participants to experience, in a realistic and safe way, the potential consequences of distraction behind the wheel. Because you experience it firsthand, the likelihood of a lasting impact on future driving behavior is greatest.
Tips and Tricks
While one participant is in the simulator, others can watch on a screen. Afterward, the campaign team debriefs with the participants. Together with the team, they share tips on how to resist the temptation to use your smartphone while driving. This way, we can work together to make traffic a lot safer for all road users. Every resident of Voorschoten is therefore warmly invited to try out this traffic simulator at Treubplein on July 5.
