Reporting foster child care

If you are caring for and raising a foster child for an extended period, you must report this to the municipality. This also applies to institutions that care for and raise a foster child.

How does it work?

  • The municipality determines what kind of assistance and Health is best for the child.
  • If this concerns foster care and you are not yet an official foster parent, an assessment will be conducted to determine your suitability as a foster parent. This is done by a foster care organization.
  • The foster care organization will apply for a certificate of good conduct on your behalf from the Child Care and Protection Board.
  • If you are approved to become a foster parent for the child, you may receive an allowance. You will also receive support from the foster Health organization.

More information about becoming a foster parent can be found on the website of the Child Care and Protection Board.
